Biography

Judge Stacey Hydrick was appointed to the DeKalb County State Court by Governor Nathan Deal in April 2011, where she has served ever since. As a State Court Judge, she presides over numerous misdemeanor criminal cases including DUI, domestic violence, prostitution, criminal trespass, shoplifting, marijuana possession, and various traffic offenses when a jury trial is requested. She also presides over a wide variety of civil cases, such as medical malpractice, general personal injury, premises liability, products liability, fraud, insurance disputes, contract disputes and other civil actions.

Judge Hydrick’s service in the law began with her years as an Assistant District Attorney in the Augusta Judicial Circuit where she prosecuted felonies and misdemeanors in Richmond, Columbia and Burke Counties. She went on to work as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Georgia Attorney General’s Special Prosecution Division, where she focused on combating public corruption cases. She was later recruited to be a Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney for the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, where she started the office’s first Public Integrity Unit. After almost ten years of serving as a prosecutor, Judge Hydrick left criminal law to become an insurance defense attorney with the firm of Gray, Hedrick & Edenfield. She worked there for five years as an associate and then made partner, where she remained until she was appointed to the bench.

Judge Hydrick received her Bachelor’s Degree in English at Emory University in 1989 and earned her law degree from Georgia State University in 1992. She has been married to her husband, Karl Hydrick, for almost twenty-two years. They are the proud parents of two sons, Danny (19), a sophomore at the University of Georgia, and Adam (16), a junior at Dunwoody High School. They live in Dunwoody with their three rescue dogs, Chester, Charlie and Sammy.
