Kevin E. Richardson was sworn in as the 9th Marshal of DeKalb County State Court and Chief Constable of DeKalb County Magistrate Court on July 20, 2023.
Marshal Richardson leads a staff of 96 in which 87 are sworn deputies and 9 administrative staffers. The Marshal’s Office is the law enforcement arm of State and Magistrate Courts. One of the major roles of the Marshal’s Office is executing all writs in dispossessory cases out of Magistrate Court and civil service out of State and Magistrate Courts. In addition,
the office also handles the security for all of State and Magistrate Courts.
A native Georgian, Marshal Richardson proudly graduated from Riverdale High School in 1991, setting the foundation for his remarkable journey in law enforcement. His journey commenced in 1994 with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
In 2005, he embraced a new chapter in his career as a Deputy Marshal, contributing his unwavering commitment to the DeKalb Marshal’s Office. Throughout the years, his exemplary service and dedication led to an ascent through the ranks, including the roles of Lieutenant, Major, and Deputy Chief, culminating in his present appointment as the Marshal.
Marshal Richardson is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Columbus State University. He is a graduate of the Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, the 77th Command Officers Development Course at University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute, the Georgia Chiefs of Police Executive Training Class, and is the recipient of the FBI-LEEDA trilogy award.
Marshal Richardson is happily married to his beloved wife, Catherine, and together they cherish their beautiful family, which includes two children, Madison and Tyler. Additionally, their household is filled with love and joy, thanks to their two adorable puppies, Blue and Byrdie.
