BIOGRAPHY

Judge Kimberly Anderson has served on the DeKalb County State Court since her appointment to the bench December 2019. Judge Anderson is the senior judge of the DeKalb County DUI Accountability Court, where she has served as a judge since October 2021.  Judge Anderson is actively involved in the DeKalb County community as a member of the Junior League of DeKalb, a community service project liaison for Leadership DeKalb (Class of 2021), and a member of the DeKalb Lawyers Association and DeKalb Bar Association.  Judge Anderson also participates in several organizations in the legal community; she is a board member of the Lawyer Referral Information Service of the Atlanta Bar Association, chair of the Advisory Board of the DeKalb Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, a master in the Judge Clarence Cooper American Inn of Court, a member of the judicial section of the Gate City Bar Association, a member of Lawyer’s Club, and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee for the Georgia Council of State Court Judges. Judge Anderson was recently selected to be a member of the Class of 2023 of Leadership Georgia.

Prior to assuming the bench, Judge Anderson was Counsel at the law firm of Robbins Ross Alloy Belinfante Littlefield LLC.  There, she represented clients in both Federal and State courts on complex matters involving state and federal government agencies, with a focus on healthcare and regulatory matters.  Prior to her move to the metro-Atlanta area, Judge Anderson served as legislative counsel on the Committee on the Judiciary in the United States Senate in Washington, DC.  In that post she advised members on the Committee on the Judiciary on pending executive nominations, including the nomination of United States Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan.

Judge Anderson graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law.  During law school, she was an inductee of the Order of Barristers and a fellow of the Blackburn Institute—an organization dedicated to foster leadership and civic engagement amongst the students at the University of Alabama.  Judge Anderson graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. 

Judge Anderson resides in Dunwoody with her husband—Joe—and two children— Pryor and Elissa Byrd.

(Jury) Division A:

House Bill 77 Legislation passed in July 2021 and made effective January 1, 2022. The new law, provides that the current Jury Division be renamed DIVISION A. The name Jury Division will not be used on and forward of January 1, 2022 and shall be referred to as DIVISION A of DeKalb County State Court. (Traffic) Division B:

House Bill 77 Legislation passed in July 2021 and made effective January 1, 2022. The new law, provides that the current Traffic Division be renamed DIVISION B and courtrooms enumerated as State Court Divisions B-8 (formerly Division A), Division B-9 (formerly Division B), Division B-10 (formerly Division C), and Division B-11 (formerly Division D). The name Traffic Division will not be used on and forward of January 1, 2022 and shall be referred to as DIVISION B of DeKalb County State Court.
